Trailer Talk: Gasland Josh Fox

September 5, 2010
Length: 30:26

I spoke to experimental theater director and filmmaker Josh Fox at a screening and organizing event in Callicoon, NY on September 5, 2010. The event was part of the Rooftop Films Series and Gasland was touring the region and was hosted by Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy. The venue I attended was the Callicoon Youth Center which sits on the banks of the Delaware River on the border of NY and PA. Josh and I have been at numerous gas drilling events and were even both guests on GRITtv a couple of years ago back in the early days of drilling in our region. Josh and I are neighbors upstate and both come from the experimental theater world. It was a pleasure to have Josh finally join me at the kitchen table of the BeeLine that night and talk about, as promised, theater, one of our teachers, Anne Bogart, my mentor the director, Reza Abdoh, in addition to Natural Gas Drilling which is shaping our lives.

It was an event filled with musicians, Janet Burgan among them singing her No Fracking Way song dedicated to Josh, Josh on stage playing his banjo, Congressman Maurice Hinchey talking about the FRAC Act, Senator Tom Duane, actor Mark Ruffalo and more. Please keep posted for more audio and video from this night. The Trailer Talk conversations went late into the night and the trailer was the last to pull out of the park (with help from friends so I didn’t crash!). Gasland and Josh are at the forefront of the movement to stop gas drilling, to push for a national moratorium. Always Josh reminds everyone to take action! It has been incredible to see his film go from short excerpts to this powerful tool helping to wake people up to the dangers of drilling. Gasland has won numerous awards including being nominated for an academy award!
