Meet community organizers  in L.A. at the protest to stop fracking in their city. Chris Paine the filmmaker of Who Killed the Electric Car? speaks out against fracking and the need to ban it. Meet Dianne Thomas, an activist and longtime resident of Carson, CA who is surrounded by fracking wells in her neighborhood speaking out (and others) to save her community.

On June 12th over 400 people came to the DOGGR workshop at the Culver City Hall and made it clear that they (Culver City and Los Angeles residents) want either a moratorium or a ban on fracking. Person after person stood up and talked about their concerns and anger about the unregulated fracking that is already happening in CA and the proposal by the oil and gas industry to increase operations throughout the state.

As mothers and teachers, nurses and scientists, filmmakers and even a former marine (among hundreds of others) spoke out about the risks and the scientific evidence that proves fracking is dangerous it became obvious that L.A. is the next city to mobilize to protect their communities from fracking. The current Culver City Mayor and two former Mayors also spoke up for a ban on fracking in their city that is already dealing with the dangers caused by oil wells in their backyard.

Because of the overwhelming turnout of constituents supporting a ban the council has proposed a resolution supporting this. On July 2nd the council will meet to gather public comment, in order to help them decide the parameters of the resolution.
